Product Care Guidelines
Caring for fine bone china
Dishwasher safe if follow guidelines below.
Modern fine bone china can be washed in the dishwasher at a maximum temperature of 40 degrees celsius. It is best to use a gentle, short wash or, if your dishwasher has it, a 'china and crystal' cycle. Wedgewood recommend using liquid detergents on their bone china. Their approved cleaning agents in the UK are 'Finish', Marks and Spencer or Waitrose. Other tips are to open the dishwasher door after the cycle to prevent condensation, allow items to air dry or use soft tea towel. Do not stack hot or wet ceramic items.
Incorrect washing can result in faults such as fading of print and crazing (spider web-like cracks). Crazing is a result of water soaking into the earthenware body and expanding when heated in a high dishwasher temperature cycle.
Hand wash
To prolong the quality of the design and glaze it is best to hand wash as often as possible. Use a mild detergent and warm water. Avoid harsh scrubbers and abrasive sponges, as these can scratch the surface.
Staining
To prevent staining it is best to wash your mug as soon as possible after use. If you do find your mugs have become stained, tea and coffee do contain naturally staining tannins, you can create a paste using baking soda and water, applying it gently to the affected area. Let it sit for a few minutes before rinsing thoroughly. Or Milton's sterilising fluid will gently remove stubborn stains.
Alternatively a mixture of bicarbonate of soda, water and vinegar. Simply pour 1 tablespoon of baking soda into your mug. Make a solution of 1/2 cup of white vinegar and 1/2 cup of warm water and pour this into the mug (make sure it covers all of the stained area). Let this soak for a good two hours or so and then rinse.
In hard water areas, deposits may form on the bone china tableware over time if the water is allowed to dry on the ware. These soluble deposits can be easily removed with a dilute acid, such as vinegar.
By following these tips, you’ll keep your fine bone china in top condition for years to come.
Caring for Cyanotype tea light holders and vase
My tea light holders and vases are lovingly created by applying a paper Cyanotype design to the glassware. Should you need to clean the inside please use a dry or very slightly dampened cloth, being careful not to catch the outside paper.
